Kanye West's masks are quickly becoming the stars of his "Yeezus" tour. The "New Slaves" rapper, who has been covering his face during concerts for the past few years, has taken it to a new level this time out. He wore four balaclava-styled masks Saturday during his opening date in Seattle. Asked by San Francisco's KMEL to explain the meaning behind the covering, he said, "I haven't figured out the whole backstory. Sometimes it's just freshness."
The custom pieces are from Maison Martin Margiela, a Parisian fashion house Kanye name-dropped on "N-ggas in Paris" ("What's that jacket, Margiela?"). Designer Martin Margiela himself does not like to be photographed, stays backstage after his shows, and requires his models to hide their faces on the runway. — Billy Johnson Jr.
